This was a project for a class called Mechanical Prototyping which was intended to familiarize us with the different types of joints and fixtures that mechanical structures can utilize. The goal of the "box project" was simply to make a laser cut box, with the only restriction being that it must utilize five types of joints and 4 types of fasteners. I decided to make a box modeled after a rolling-top desk, and this involved the curved opening top along with an extruding handle and organization space inside.
I achieved the curved structure of the box along the top with several oblique joints combined with finger joints. There are also several small cubbies for small objects such as pens and pencils, and two shelves along the top utilizing the space inside the box.
